From the mind of Dean Koontz, the 400 million copy worldwide bestseller, comes this supernatural tale of good and evil, and life and death. Find out why Odd Thomas is the master storyteller's most talked about creation. Strange times need strange heroes. Odd Thomas lives always between two worlds. He can see the lingering dead and knows that even in chaos, there is order, purpose, and strange meaning that invites our understanding but often thwarts it. Intuition has brought Odd Thomas to the quaint town of Magic Beach on the California coast. As he waits to learn why he has been drawn there, he finds work as a cook and assistant to a once-famous film actor who, at eighty has become an eccentric with as long a list of fears as he has stories about Hollywood's golden days. Odd is having dreams of a red tide, vague but worrisome. By day he senses a free-floating fear in the air of the town, as if unleashed by the crashing waves. But nothing prepares him for the hard truth of what he will discover as he comes face to face with a form of evil that will test him as never before...

I just love Odd Thomas, the quirky heroe that Koontz has happily continued. I particularly love listening to the book on disc as the narrator easily conveys the character so many of us have come to know.

SUSPENSE & HUMOR
Odd Thomas is a unique and fun character. Since he foresees disasters and talks to ghosts, he?s always in the middle of chaos and suspense. In this story Odd uses his comical wit and storytelling to confuse the bad guys. His unsettling dreams of the ocean turning red and the feeling of doom pushes him forward into a quest to stop whatever horrendous disaster is about to happen. In his quest, Odd encounters two very unusual women, who may be added to his friends in future novels. A lot of descriptive dialog slows this book down a bit, but picks up real fast when the action gets underway.
Publishers Weekly, 2008-04-21 Quirky humor and an endearing narrative voice lift bestseller Koontz's winning fourth Odd Thomas novel (after Brother Odd), set in the small California community of Magic Beach (whose motto is "Everyone a Neighbor, Every Neighbor a Friend"). Thomas, a 21-year-old fry cook, takes his prophetic dreams or visions, which often foretell trouble, very seriously. When three male thugs approach Thomas and Annamaria, a pregnant friend of his, on a lonely pier, he finds that physical contact with one of the men triggers his fiery nightmares. Thomas's chivalric impulses soon put his life at risk, and when he finds that his adversaries are ostensibly employees of the town's beach department, he must work to stave off disaster without the assistance of the local authorities, some of whom have conspired with terrorists to smuggle nuclear weapons into the country. Sensitive portrayals of minor characters whose lives Thomas touches are a plus. (May 20) Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.
