Caveat Emptor. The cover purports to be "Chronicles of the Spanish Civil War" but in reality this book ( and the trilogy) is anything but. It is a highly readable yarn featuring a host of two-dimensional characters including spies and a nazi with a conscience who get involved in a plot to recover Inca gold, which, by the third "chronicle" takes over the narrative to such an extent that the only figure who needs to step in and save them all is Indiana Jones. Meanwhile the real conflict, at times brilliantly described, comes peacemeal and is used primarily as a vehicle to force the characters to find God. With better editing, more time spent on research and less on the Bible this series might indeed have been a blockbuster.
