Some very serious and helpful insights from a female medical doctor who's father was also a medical doctor. She shares the care and concern and understanding that her very busy and intellectual father gave her and how much it enabled her to do the hard, but right, things in life. Some parts may not touch you but many will. I found that with teenage daughters, I very much wish that I had read this book years ago. Buy it now.

  • Wondering How to be your Daughter's Father? Dec 17, 2009
    by JaiUneGuruDeja

My daughter is 13 and acting out the violent chemical storm that is brewing inside her. As an old school father, this bleep was making no sense to me and I was either unable or unwilling to help her. I felt powerless. After reading this book, I am confident that I understand her experience and her expectations of me. Moreover, I understand my importance to her and the good I can do by leading, protecting and supporting her. As a result, our relationship has improved 10-fold and she is blossoming before my eyes.

The advice this book contains is not easy to follow. But, if you do it consistently, things will get better between you and your daugher. If you are a wimp or a loser, none of this applies. So, man-up and get after it!

The author, Meg Meeker, is a woman who strongly believes in a Christian god for all the right reasons. She feels that your daughter needs to believe in God so that she has a Dad when your not there. So, if that would put you off and you can't replace Chapter Eight with your own perspective, then this book is not for you. I'm a pantheist and I just don't buy the invisible Daddy bit. My spirituality and morality have different roots. The point is that your daughter needs a moral and spiritual compass. So, give her one!
