Sometimes, "Harsh" is good. Dec 6, 2007
I put this book down after finishing it and realized that I was having a strong feeling of regret. Regret that the story had to end. Regret that I would not be experiencing the characters any more. Regret that this was the end of a wonderful series. That said, I would recommend this book in particular, and the series in general, to anyone who had even a passing interest in the history of a country that is very much like that of (the actually existant) Japan. The characters are believable. The events are within the realm of possibility. The descriptions of the land and its people have the ring of familiarity.
All of these elements go to make up a well-told tale by a master story teller.
