The ISBN system was devised beginning in 1967, and books published prior to then don't have "editions" associated with them. It's very similar with movie, music and video game UPCs. In typical Patterson fashion, you're left guessing how it all ends until the very last page... and left wondering if there might be more to it even afterwards! Great book and definately one that I'll re-read.
