Winged Pharaoh Jul 20, 2007
This is a historical novel written in the earlier part of the 20th century about the 1st Dynasty of Ancient Egypt - c 3100 BCE. The author believed she had lived in Ancient Egypt herself in previous incarnations. Basically the story is about the daughter of Pharaoh, the king of Ancient Egypt, who later in her life becomes Pharaoh herself - almost unknown as women did not rule in Egypt, though they could be regents for their sons. The descriptions in the book are vivid and Grant is a good story teller but I found it a bit tedious in places and a bit long winded. I think some of her other books on the same kind of theme are actually much better. Still it does give the flavour of what it would have been like to be royal at the dawn of Egypt's history - before even the Pyramids were built.
