The book captures the status of Jews In Italy from Risorgimento to the end of World war 11.His depiction of the life and fate of 5 families from different socio-economic groups from 1870 to 1945 gives the reader a perspective on why Italian Jews thought they were immune to discrimination and persecution.
It also reveals the inadequate response of the Vatican to the plight of Italian Jews as well as the heroic efforts to save them by individual bishops, priest and nuns.
A must read for all Jews.
