A Traditional Book May 17, 2009
My brother gave me Louis Untermeyer's "Golden Treasury of Poetry" when I was around nine years old. I loved this book so much and memorized many of the poems. In high school, I used it for poetry reading assignments.
When my daughter was born, I started reading to her from GToP. She loved the poems and, like Mommy, memorized many of them.
Now she's "borrowed" my 40-something copy so she can read to my grandson and granddaughter. Sometimes we recite our favorites together. And Ronin, my 6-year old grandson, is memorizing, too.
This book is a family tradition and a family heirloom. However, we're getting a second one because I want mine back!
