This was such a wonderful read. I asked myself did the author think about how he would portray a man as a dog? The dog is the secondary character is this novel but the behaviours and the needs of a dog seem to resonate through out this story. The protagonist is a beta male. He lacked compassion, caring, connection to others much like a stray. In the end, through his character development he became a wonderful and sympathetic person. I could not hold my tears back during the last paragraphs of this novel. It has been a long time since a book had that affect on me.
