In over forty years of continuous reading, this is among the three best books I've read. Laura Hillenbrand is a fabulous writer and this is a great book.

Genuine history about a period of which I knew some but not enough. It describes the WWII experiences of a man who it can be fairly said was the ultimate expression of that Greatest Generation.

The author (previously of Sea Biscuit) can tell a story and bring a character to life.

The subject is still alive. God Bless ya Louis!
