The fifth book in the Dark series is about Julian Savage, yet another dominate male Carpathian. He is a lonely Vampire hunter who cuts himself from all those he loves, even his twin, Aiden (Dark Gold), because of a careless mistake he made as a curious child. Julian is ready to to end his lonely existence until Gregori (Dark Magic) asks him to warn a singer that she is being hunted by humans who want her dead, or worse. Julian well remembers the torture inflicted upon Jacque (Dark Desire) the brother of their prince, Mikhail (Dark Prince). The human hunters do not distinguish the difference between Carpathians and Vampires. Julian goes to warn Desari, the singer for the group The Troubadors, when something he never imagined happens. As soon as he hears her voice he sees in color and his emotions return. As Julian tries to understand and control his newfound emotions shots ring out. He rushes to find his lifemate only to find out she has been severly wounded. He must save her. He weakens himself by healing her and giving her his blood. While he holds her still body he is attacked by a male leopard. He doesn't want to kill the animal. He only seeks to ensure Desari will survive, then he wants to hunt the human assassins. Christine Feehan does a remarkable job with the Carpathians struggles to live in a world that doesn't know they exist.
