Too wordy - few new ideas May 6, 2012
My opinion of this book is very neutral. It was required for class. Some parts were interesting but most put me to sleep or I had to speed-read through them. Aside from somewhat outdated statistics, there are very few new ideas presented in this book. The author takes 2-3 pages just to make one point - I get it after skimming over a few paragraphs. The book has 500 pages that regurgitate unoriginal ideas. Perhaps, for someone who is totally new to the idea of about public health, such introduction might be helpful. However, for someone who keeps up with current events, paid attention in history classes in high school and took a basic sociology course, it would be better to skip to a higher level public health class that does not require this book.
