Enchanting story Jul 2, 2011
An American journalist, married to a Frenchman and living in Paris, is asked to research and write a story for the sixtieth commemoration of the Vil' dHiv', the night in 1942 when Jewish families were rounded up by French police to be sent to Germany. Eight-year-old Sarah seeks to protect her younger brother by locking him in a secret closet and promising to return for him. The journalist is horrified by the story of the roundup and begins to research the fate of the victims. She stumbles upon several secrets that link her with Sarah and continues to follow her story. The book is beautifully written, with past and present events skillfully interwoven, until Sarah's story is completed and the journalist finds her romantic future.
