Although author Robb Walsh is a local Houston boy, that's not the reason for writing this review. OK, I have to admit that the title alone got my attention. There are many treatises on oysters (most of which I haven't read) but this book conpares very favorably with OYSTERS, A CULINARY CELEBRATION, by JoanReardon, (2000). It has much the same information but is presented in a different format. Neither is as good as CONSIDER THE OYSTER, by M.F.K. Fisher, (1941) the quintessential book of book on oyster lore and recipes. This book is the highly personal story of Walsh's quest, in Europe and America for oysters. I never knew there were so many kinds, nor the details of the "oyster catch." The only thing I didn't like was the author's treatment of Antoine's (New Orleans) Oysters Rockefeller.
