INSCRIBED to Richard Lupoff on the front endpaper in the year of publication: "For Dick Lupoff / Best of luck to a fellow Creature-Feature fan / Anne Rice / May, 1976." Anne Rice was still attending school in San Francisco at this time. The year also happened to be Lupoff's most prolific year in terms of output, penning four novels, and was nominated for a Hugo Award for his short story, "Sail the Tide of Mourning." Near Fine in a Near Fine jacket. Faint smudges to the front endpapers, heel lightly bumped, and a small spot of discoloration to the top page edges. The gold foil jacket is just lightly rubbed overall, with a brief corner crease, and similar smudges to the verso, else very bright with no fading or tears. A lovely copy of a book and jacket usually found worse for wear, with a strong and unusual association.

Signed by Author A square solid tight clean copy that is either un-read un-opened or has been treated very nicely in it's lifetime. This copy has some light board edgewear else fine. The 8.95 priced foil jacket has some very light rubbing wear, edgewear that is almost un-noticable, a crease to the front flap, a short closed tear. All in all this is a pretty nice copy that is head and shoulders over most that I have seen over the years. You could do a lot worse. The first book in the Vampire Chronicles series and the basis for the Brad Pitt, Christian Slater and Tom Cruise movie. This copy includes as copy of my ticket for the signing event and a picture of Anne signing books.

Stated First Edition of author's first book, and SIGNED by the author in red ink on a loosely laid in postcard-siz ed piece of paper. The book is bound in dark gray paper covered boards with a black cloth spine with gilt printing, and with red upper page edges. It is straight, clean, tight, the red upper page edge is in excellent condition, and it has no soiling or handwriting; there is, however, a small 'blind' (no color) personal name embossment stamp to the upper title page corner. The dustjacket is the notorious gold foil finish, almost impossible not to find scratched or creased badly. It is price intact, at $8.95, and is really in excellent condition; no hard creases even to the flaps (a couple of small, short and faint wrinkles--one to upper back panel and one to upper front panel--that show when you slant it just right in the light), just a couple of small surface scratch lines to spine and lower front panel that haven't removed the gold color from the foil, and just a mere touch of shelving wear to spine end edges. Quite an excellent example of Ms. Rice's first book! ; Signed by Author.
