This historical fiction opens the door on Scotland when it was known as Alba with various tribes. These were the Picts who painted their faces and parts of their body. There are some explicit sexual accounts in this book which some may find offensive. I would not recommend this book for those under the age of accountability. The conflict with the approaching Roman Army is a vital part of the book with emphasis on an alliance of the various tribes to defeat the Romans and keep Alba free of foreign occupation. One of the main characters is an Irishman who was driven from his throne by his uncle. This Irishman becomes the main war leader and marries a Ban Cue, a holy woman, of the central tribe. I thought it was good reading, but did not appreciate the sexual content. I was fortunate to meet the author a few weeks ago in this small town where I live. It was a delightful meeting and gave me the opportunity to learn of her writting.
