"I actually love to cook, but I still love this book. All I have to do is substitute cleaning for cooking in order to totally relate to and appreciate the saucy, rebellious attitude. And the nice thing about recipes like this is that they're quick/easy for anyone, which is useful for those evenings when energy flags. People ate a lot more sherry and olives and artichokes then. And chutney, remarkably. Apparently it went away and then came back. I think the children's birthday party chapter would work perfectly well today. And the illustrations throughout are just adorable."
"one of the best and funniest books ever! No one would ever want to eat a lot of the dishes, but its the most amazinly delightful things you'll ever read."
"I read this one years ago, when I was first learning to cook. It's still as funny now as I remember it being then. It's a bit dated. Some of the recipes are definitely from a very different era when no one worried much about feeding vegetarian or vegan friends, but there are still some great ones worth trying."
