The Orphan Master's Son

2013 Pulitzer Prize

The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson is an epic novel that takes place in North Korea, a country that still remains largely a mysterious dictatorship. The story follows Pak Jun Do who's father runs a work camp for orphans and where Jun Do first learns to be thrilled by power. As Jun Do becomes more and more power hungry over the years he rises through the ranks and starts down a dark path. But he makes a treacherous mistake when he crosses leader Kim Jong Il in an effort to save the woman he loves. This thrilling story of power, choice and fate is an awesome novel that will stand the test of time.
