This is a very well written and enjoyable book, especially if like me you are or have been a pilot or an engineer - especially an aeronautical engineer. Eric Brown is an amazing pilot, having flown nearly 500 different types of airplanes as a test pilot - an unbeaten record.

Eric Brown - World's ultimate test pilot.
Capt. Eric Brown flew more aircraft types than any other test pilot. He gives a detailed analysis of each one's flying characteristics from his personal experience. It's impossible to tell from its specifications whether an aircraft is any good as an airplane. For example, Brown tells us the Northrop P-61 Black Widow was docile but underpowered and sluggish - no good as a fighter. This volume covers many oddballs, including the assymetrical Bv-141 and the Saunders-Roe SR-71 flying boat fighter that almost killed him. Indispensable for the aviation historian.
