A series of apparent suicides rings alarm bells with the police. And before he knows it Harry Dresden, professional wizard, is hired to investigate. At the first crime scene he finds an unmistakable magical taint - and a message specially designed for him, referencing the killing of witches. Harry is desperate to hunt down his tormentor and halt the killings, but instead finds evidence implicating his half-brother, Thomas. To Harry, this just doesn't add up, so he must add clearing his brother's name to his expanding list. Something that didn't make the list is subtlety, and Harry's search attracts the attention of the White Court of vampires ...Soon, whichever way he turns, he faces a power struggle that will render him outnumbered, outclassed and dangerously susceptible to temptation. And if he screws up, his friends will die.

Jim butcher does it again. Harry is at his (seemingly lost - but supremely able) best. This book was excellent - a definite recommended read!

White Night, The Dresden Files Book 9
The best Dresden Files book since "Summer Knight"!!! When helping Chicago?s SI with a suicide, Harry finds that his brother, a vampire of the White Court is the prime suspect. Working along side Murphy, their relationship is growing beyond that of just friends, but can Harry get over that she and Kencaid went to Hawaii? Once a coven is found to be Thomas?s next target, an old enemy of Harry?s shows her face. And, his old childhood friend and first love, Elaine is there to protect the witches of the coven. The weight of being a warden is bearing down on him, along with teaching his apprentice, Molly. Once again, with the aid of Marcone and Lasciel, Harry is able to uncover a threatening plot of the White Vampires.

White Night (Jim Butcher)
I had eagerly awaited this latest book in the Harry Dresden files, and it did not disappoint me! It had all the earmarks of the earlier stories--magic, warmth, humour, familiar characters evolving still more, a heck of a battle near the end, and a very nice last two or three pages! My cherished hope about Justine finally healing was realized, although she and Thomas still cannot touch each other without harm. I am hoping that Jim Butcher will find some way round this in future books, and Thomas and Justine can finally put their arms round each other and share their true love. This is one of my favourite series, and I am hopping about from foot to foot in impatience for the follow-up to WHITE NIGHT!! If you like wizards, you will love Harry Dresden--but do read the books from the first one until you reach WHITE NIGHT.
