This is a breezy, insightful book on ALL musicals, Hollywood AND Broadway. There is mucho info on La Merman (The Great, getting some of her due) and Esther Williams (becoming forgotten). The villification of the village-acation of "Brigadoon" as it sprawled into "7 Brides for 7 Brothers" is also a tale untold before, to my knowledge. There is a glaring inaccuracy, however. Movie and TV Tarzans are confused and mistaken, and this seems a sloppy error. But then again there's her chapter on "Mary Poppins"---everything you ever wanted to know, and it's fascinating. Maybe even P.L. Travers would like this one.
