I enjoyed this book, even though as an Englishwoman my understanding of the American political system dates from studies many years ago. I did not find it quite so engrossing as the John Thatcher Wall Street novels, but it was interesting and a good read nonetheless.
I think if you enjoy the other series you will enjoy this one as well. There is quite a complicated cast of characters and quite a few red herrings to lead you astray.
