Audience: General/trade. The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament [TDNT] is the authorized and unabridged translation of Theologisches Worterbuch zum Neuen Testament. This work was first published in Germany in 1933, and is one of the twentieth century's most monumental achievements in biblical studies. It is designed for the intermediate and advanced Greek student. Each significant Greek word of the New Testament is comprehensively presented and takes account of its: -Greek background-role in the Old Testament (in the Hebrew and the Septuagint)-use by Philo, Josephus, and in the rabbinical literature-uses in the New Testament and its various genres-appearances (where appropriate) in the Apostolic Fathers More than 100 distinguished scholars contributed to the work, including specialists in Old Testament, Septuagint, Hellenistic, Semitic and Rabbinic studies. Extensive bibliographies and detailed footnoting supplement the articles. Volume 10 is an index for the entire set. Set comes in a durable case bound hardback, 10 volumes.
This is only Volume 8 to a ten volume set. The most incredible and exhaustive study that I know of going over the original Greek words in the New Testament. They go over how it was originally used in a more secular sense, then in the Old Testament, Hellenistic usage, and also, of course, how they used it in the New Testament. I recommend this set to any serious student of the Bible.
Easy to use and has a great mass of information it is helpful while learning Greek. It is also helpful when in advanced Greek, but I also recommend using a Greek chart and memorize the Greek Alphabet and practice writing the letters.
