Spine title stamped in gilt, stamped rules in same; some rubbing to spine at joints. Edges of boards somewhat darkened, some slight soiling to both, corners slightly bumped. Textblock fore and lower edges un-trimmed, slightly darkened; blue ribbon marker as issued. Illustrated title page; printed on Japon. A finely bound copy; beautifully realised. The first publication of the Argonaut Press; an account of Drake's voyage around the world. The limited edition, in addition to being printed on Japon vellum, also has an original woodcut illustration by British artist William Monk. This volume was later re-published as part of a 16 part set; both the original and the reprint are extremely scarce.
