GRAVES, Richard. THE SPIRITUAL QUIXOTE OR THE SUMMER'S RAMBLE OF MR. GEOFFREY WILDGOOSE: A COMIC ROMANCE. To Which Is Prefixed The Life Of The Author. London: Walker & Edwards, 1816. 24mo., black quarter-morocco leather & marbled boards; 578 pages with no endpapers or catalog in rear, with endpaper & frontispiece in front. Later Edition, the first edition was published in 1773. A young Oxonian, Wildgoose, adopts Methodism and travels through Gloucestershire and Somerset with his trusty Sancho, and Jeremiah Tugwell, the cobbler. His attempts to preach usually lead to farce, satirizing ignorance and ill-breeding but a blow to the temple from a decanter returns him to his senses, allowing him to resume his proper station and to woo the beautiful Miss Townsend. Graves especially satirizes George Whitefield. Very Good (little wear & foxing, occasional pencil line in outer margin). $85.00.
