Due to a dispute with Artaud's heirs, this book contains no reproductions of the artwork described, but instead a series of haunting photographs of the artist.Hide synopsis

Here are (published for the first time together in English) two famous texts on Artaud's drawings and portraits, translated by Mary Ann Caws. CONTENTS: Preface-Derrida's Maddening Text: AR-TAU (Caws); The Search for a Lost World (Thevenin); To Unsense the Subjectile (Derrida); 157 pages, illustrated with Pastier's remarkable photographs. NOTE: None of Artaud's actual art-works are included in this volume, due to a dispute between the publishers and Artaud's heirs. CONDITION: The book itself is bright, solid, square and unmarked, with negligible shelf-wear, compromised only by noticeably bumped lower right cover corners. Its dustjacket-now in a clear mylar Brodart (removable) protective cover-is pristine, though the accompanying scan image has a "fogginess" to it, which I can only conclude is a symptom of reflection from the mylar cover.
