Opera-pop group Il Divo don't stray from their blueprint on their fourth proper album, The Promise, which isn't greatly different in feel or form from its predecessors -- it still consists of stately, dramatic Euro-pop covers of soft rock classics balanced by a couple of made-to-order tunes. Previously, they sang songs that were hits the world over -- "Nights in White Satin," "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman," "All by Myself" -- and here they rely on "The Power of Love," ABBA's "The Winner Takes All," and Charles Aznavour's "She," which wind up skewing this toward the group's Euro roots. Ultimately, fans can choose to listen to this or to the other Il Divo albums, because The Promise offers more of the same. [A CD/DVD version was also released.] ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
This CD is just what I needed. I am a stay at home mom to 2 busy little boys and by the end of the day, I need my mommy time. So, I grab my bath salts, scented candles and Il Divo The Promise CD and I take a long, much needed bath. The music is so soft and soothing, helping to calm my nerves and relax easier.

Il Divo Keeps Promise On New Release
Prior to receiving this CD, I was only minimally aware of Il Divo, the princes of popera. I had seen them on television several times, and knew that they had amazing voices and harmonies. When I first listened to this, I was blown away. These songs truly showcase Il Divo's incredible harmonies. The instrumentals are expertly arranged. The melodies are deceptively simple, yet compelling. Each song is full of pleasant surprises in harmonies, melodies and dynamics. If you listen, and emerge yourself in the music, you will not only be interested, you will also be lost in the music. With the exception of Amazing Grace, the songs are in Spanish. Regardless if you understand the words, the music emotes the sentiment of the song in a way that makes it easy to understand the message of the music. Songs such as "La Luna", Angelina and Amazing Grace really showcase the power, range and precision of Il Divo's voices.

The Promise is Divine!
IL Divo at their very best! There was not one song that I did not throughly enjoy on this CD. A series of masterpieces one after the other. I have a hard time picking my favorites. Their blend of rich, warm vocals stimulate the listener's soul. They are gifted and they are at their very best!
