This collection chronicled Wharton's development as a writer from one of her very first stories to one of her most popular, later stories. The trip through her world was delightful in showing not just the author's life changes and outlooks but also the changing social times. Neither my bookclub or I thought the collection was a strong depiction of New York life as many of the stories show more emphasis on European influences on american culture and societal changes.
