This book is full of different versions of food I grew up with -- beans and greens, polenta, cauliflower and pasta. My parents were Italian; my dad always had a garden, and my mother cooked from it all summer. Although I have given up on planting a garden, I still love the look and taste of fresh produce. The recipes in this book are simple, healthy comfort food, honest vegetarian cooking with no hint of pretense. This is a must have for all cooks from vegans to omnivores.

Great recipes but no pictures
There are some great recipes in this book. The ingredients are natural and readily available. A lot of vegan recipes attempt to mimic meat and dairy products and fail to make full use of the abundant variety of grains and legumes available. You don't have to buy fake cheese or textured vegetable protein and pretend it is meat when you use this book. The only thing I don't like about the book is the lack of images but I guess that's why its not very expensive. A great book, well worth the money.
