Who should speak for the Medicine Way?
I would recommend this book....with serious reservation!
As with so many books now on bookshelves, this book takes "some" from Native American spiritual practices, "some" from other European ancient spiritual practices, then melds them into a Mulligan's Stew for the soul.
The first half of the book does a fairly decent job of describing Native thought, but Native thought varies from tribe to tribe, so one cannot read this book and think they have captured the "Native mind."
I find this book only slightly better than the run -of-the-mill variety capitalizing on our Indigenous American People's spiritual beliefs.
As a tool for self-improvement, the book has some value. There is much to help one reconnect with nature and be comforted by her. ...as well as a method for connecting with each other. One cannot read it without finding a few aces to keep, so for this reason I can recommend it.
However, I think it best to let Natives of any culture speak for themselves about their treasured spiritual beliefs.
