Dr Francis S. Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, is one of the world's leading scientists, working at the cutting edge of the study of DNA, the code of life. Yet he is also a man of unshakable faith in God. How does he reconcile the seemingly unreconcilable? In THE LANGUAGE OF GOD he explains his own journey from atheism to faith, and then takes the reader on a stunning tour of modern science to show that physics, chemistry and biology -- indeed, reason itself -- are not incompatible with belief. His book is essential reading for anyone who wonders about the deepest questions of all: why are we here? How did we get here? And what does life mean?

This book shows -with an easy to understand language- how rational the belief in God can be.
Francis Collins is one of the greatest modern scientists in the world, and a Christian. So no surprise if he is absolutely convinced about theistic evolution.
As a scientist, I was so happy to read about a faith so similar to mine.

A must read for anyone in Bible study . It really helped to understand some of the more difficult passages in the Bible and helped calify others.

Dr. Collins is correct...
Collins is the undisputed expert in this field. It is an honor to read his contribution to popular culture and more readily understandable explanations of the story of the human genome project. That this man finds within that science evidence of God is heartening. Dr. Collins, thank you for your life long work. To all reading here, please read this book!

Creation through evolution???
God creating through evolution is at best a very debatable stance for one to take.

Evidences of an architect of all living things
Dr. Collins does a superb job of laying out the fundamentals of genetic research and how his discoveries allowed him to see the work of God in all living things.
Publishers Weekly, 2006-05-29 Collins, a pioneering medical geneticist who once headed the Human Genome Project, adapts his title from President Clinton's remarks announcing completion of the first phase of the project in 2000: "Today we are learning the language in which God created life." Collins explains that as a Christian believer, "the experience of sequencing the human genome, and uncovering this most remarkable of all texts, was both a stunning scientific achievement and an occasion of worship." This marvelous book combines a personal account of Collins's faith and experiences as a genetics researcher with discussions of more general topics of science and spirituality, especially centering around evolution. Following the lead of C.S. Lewis, whose Mere Christianity was influential in Collins's conversion from atheism, the book argues that belief in a transcendent, personal God-and even the possibility of an occasional miracle-can and should coexist with a scientific picture of the world that includes evolution. Addressing in turn fellow scientists and fellow believers, Collins insists that "science is not threatened by God; it is enhanced" and "God is most certainly not threatened by science; He made it all possible." Collins's credibility as a scientist and his sincerity as a believer make for an engaging combination, especially for those who, like him, resist being forced to choose between science and God.
