Fair. Hardcover, leather spine and corners and pebbled cloth, appears to be a rebind with new end-papers, this would be a useless copy if not for the beautiful plates, five of the six steel engravings are present (the portrait of Washington is missing). Also includes 32 wood engravings, 15 of which are hand colored, for the most part the plates are clean and usable, some listings mention a folding illustration of Mt. Vernon, this copy does not have that nor is there any mention of it in the list of illustrations, the title and copyright pages are missing as well as the last few pages of text, scattered soiling is present, most of it is confined to the margins, the leather is worn along the edges and a 1-inch piece is missing from the bottom edge of the spine, the binding is tight, also a useful copy for that antique look on a bookshelf.
