First Taschen edition. Quarto. Signed by Peter Beard on the title page. In fine condition. On its publication in 1965, Beard's "book was immediately acclaimed, with not one but two glowing reviews in The New York Times In addition to being singularly beautiful (with its luscious printing and scrapbook aesthetic), The End of the Game, is thoughtful as well. Long taken as a seminal book on wildlife conservation, it is actually an epic visual poem on the subject of loss" (Roth, 170; Open Book, 208).
First edition. Hardcover. A masterful book that documents the grim changes Africa was undergoing with text, drawings and photographs by Beard who was essentially bearing witness to the destruction and carnage that man was imposing on the wildlife in Africa. A very near fine copy in a close to near fine dust jacket with a faint vertical scratch to the front panel and some other minute wear. A very bright copy of this classic which sadly still seems very relevant today. (Roth 170-171)
Small bookseller's label to the rear pastedown, else fine in a very close to fine price-clipped jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell box. First Edition. Quarto. A scrapbook of African images, text, and other musings, culled from Beard's work in Kenya in the early 1960s, and published when the photographer was only 25 years old. Sadly, much of what Beard feared and forecast has come true, adding an uncanny prescience to his apocalyptic title. (Roth 170-171, Open Book 208-209, Auer 448).
