Very Good- Sold as a very good reading copy only. Octavo, 9 1/4" tall, frontispiece + xi + 368 pages + 14 plate illustration, gilt titles on black cloth; b&w illustrations (plates). A very good minus, generally clean, sturdy hard cover first edition with moderate shelf wear, light exterior soiling, fore-corner tips rubbed; hinges and binding solid, paper lightly yellowed with foxing to the fore-edges. Without dust jacket.

Brown faux leather binding with gilt emblem of an eagle on the front, gold designs on the spine, decorative endpages, gilt on the top edge of pages, and a satin ribbon placeholder.
