Excellent Quick Reference for Scientific Crime Sol

by Jennifer K on Aug 13, 2010

I enjoyed this book. I am a big CSI buff and love science. This book offer a quick reference (categorized as follows: Ballistics, Cause of Death, Disputed Documents, DNA Typing, Explosives and Fire, Fingerprinting, Forensic Anthropology, Odontology, Psychological Profiling, Identification of Remains, Serology, Time of Death, Toxicology, Trace Evidence and Voiceprints) with 3 (only the final category has 3. Every other category has more.) cases that show how the perps were caught and convicted using the science. The case backgrounds are short, but the information provided on how the crime was solved is what this book is actually about and provide a great incite into each of the sciences that forensics use to help catch criminals. There is a short introduction to every category describing the science and then the cases follow. I had a difficult time putting this book down and found myself trying to sneek even just a few minutes to read about the next case. Very well organized with dates, locations and significance of each case included at the beginning. There are little titles (which create almost like a small chapter) for each case. There are quite a few pictures that accompany the cases (not every case has pictures and where there are pictures it is only one per case). Despite being over 300 pages long, it will be sure to be a quick read as it truly is captavating and very difficult to put down. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys CSI, forensics, true crime, science and the like.
