The Battle of Ap Bac

The book is excellant but the story is very sad. Lt. Col John Paul Vann, the Advisor did everything right and his oposite number (NVA) had been instructed to not involved in any fights where he might loose soldiers. Any soldier with a brain would have learned from that massacre (of good guys) was going to continue in that vien and let us stupid Yanks fight all the battles. The American grunts were winning the war everyday but the S. Vietnamese just wanted to get rich off the war, and off our equipment. Col. Vann was too good a soldier to understand that "Bakshis" (payoff) governed most of the S. Vietnam politicals and senior Military men. The book is a very good historyt with every aplicable activity covered, most from every angle! Read and weep! Now you can see what we Yanks were up against.
