Differing views of harems

by BruceHH on Dec 29, 2012

Though classified as public opinion--cross-cultural studies this work can just as easily be considered sociology, women's studies, or men's studies. Ms. Mernissi points out while Sharia law limits women's space in the West it is "Kant;s ideal of the brainless beauty, the power of the painted image, and Western movies ... are major weapons used to dominate women in the West." During a book promotion tour the question of differing views of harems came to her mind. This book goes deals with the differences between the Western view of harems and the Muslim view. Part of the problem in foreign affairs is perception of the other and this book shows one of those differing views of an important part of everyone's psyche.
