This book was a quick read for me, but I am also a big Ramsay fan! His life story is written with such truth and candor... he really takes you right to the heart of the matter.
I love a great underdog of a tale... a hard and painful upbringing that is turned around and the soulful journey he takes is the dessert of the story!!!
Gordon Ramsay takes you on his lifes journey which includes: 1) alcoholism, 2) physical abuse, 3) football pros and cons 4) verbal abuse from childhood up through his many kitchen experiences on his way to the top, 5) finding love, 6) tasting success, 7) starting a family and finally, 8) building an empire around the world through extremely grueling hard work and finite training... the likes of which some chef's can only dream of attaining.
Ramsay is undoubtedly a perfectionist to the 10th power, yet what he strives to perfect is a fine dining experience the likes of royalty have only eaten, yet if you have been able to dine in one of his many restaurants around the world, you will understand that his constant search for divine perfection is his gift to all his customers!
Written in a colliquial, conversational style, Roasting in Hell's Kitchen is a quick, interesting read. Gordon Ramsay proves that in addition to footballing and cooking, he is also quite a gifted author. His engaging narrative is rife with cursing, anecdotal humour and surprisingly, tales of perceived childhood inadequacies and tumult.
A must-read for any chef-- even this vegan one!
