Organized around functional groups, Wade's text is known for its student-oriented approach--incorporating problem solving help, orientation features, and complete discussions of mechanisms. Wade explains concepts without taking the unnecessary short cuts that often lead to misconceptions. Wade's hallmark problem-solving approach includes unique strategies and hints to help students focus on the individual steps of each reaction and how they contribute to the overall reaction. Wade also employs the most pedagogically efficient method of mechanism boxes with its two-tiered approach: Mechanism and Key Mechanism Boxes. Because there are over 100 mechanisms boxed in every text, Wade delineates the 20 "Key" mechanisms that comprise nearly all of the mechanisms students will encounter. This means Wade goes one additional and important step in helping students identify and grapple with the smallest number of the most important concepts to understand.Read Less

The copy of the book I got had absurd levels of highlighting throughout and the previous owner had written their "answers" alongside the questions. It was basically un-useable so I ended up getting a new book.

The book was fairly easy to read and comprehend. I just wish that it had better practice questions.

Very good book. Highly recommended.
Not very much different compared to the newest 6th edition. Highly recommended for anybody with limited budget (like me). Everything is covered, in clear explanations and useful examples. Buying together with the Solution Manual for complete learning experiences is very recommended.

I typically buy McGraw Hill books, however they being so expensive I seached for this book. It is wonderful! It gives examples, has pictures and explains concepts very well. Most Organic Chem books fall short and do not give 3D model pictures with examples, etc. If you need extra help in understanding Organic Chem and don't want to shell out the money for a McGraw Hill book, please concider this book instead. It's used in many popular community colleges as their texts for Organic Chem. I also recommend the purchase of SparkCharts The Periodic Table.
