Good in N/A jacket. Brown hardbound, leather over boards, with no dust jacket from the publisher in good condition. Dated 1875. Cover has some rubbing, very slight soiling, slight staining, and slight edge wear. Spine is torn near the headband and is taped with clear tape. Title on the spine is very legible. Paste downs and flyleaves have some soiling and some staining from age. Name on the front flyleaf in ink, with quill. Slight seepage staining at the upper corners of most leaves and near the footband, with all staining in the outer margins with no type affected. Leaves have slight browning from age with very slight brown/yellow spotting. Page edging has some browning and some soiling. Footband is slightly worn. 420 pages.

Tight sound reading copy only due to very heavy cover wear, down to bare paper on corners and on edge of back cover, top edge of spine chipped off, heavy rubs and fade to spine, missing front free endpaper, next free endpaper has owner's inscription on endpaper, browning to endpapers front and back, evidence of neatly done glue repair. No statement of later printing on copyright page.
