Russell Brand's memoir detailing his myriad addictions is, itself, addicting. I had a hard time putting it down, even when I really ought to do something sensible like go to sleep. His tale rolls along at a good clip, with one story bleeding into the next, leading you on until the end. I was by turns amazed, repulsed, and saddened, yet found myself grinning at his cheeky turn of phrase, pausing at his insight, or laughing right out loud at some wacky occurrence. This book is intriguing, to say the least.
I was a bit worried toward the end, as time caught up to itself within the memoir and he slowed down for the finish. But he managed a solid concluding chapter, without my feeling either let down or suddenly cut off. I look forward to the sequel.
The caveat: It really has quite a bit of foul language, and is, in fact, a memoir of sex, drugs, and stand-up. He details them more as snapshots in time, these odd tableaux, and the way they effected him. But, he also talks about a number of disturbing individual events. His entire world-view became quite skewed from center because of these addictions, so just look out.
