Anne Waldman was the force behind hundreds of poetry readings as director from 1968 to 1974 of the Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church In-The-Bowery. After that she co-directed the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado.
