Born in Graz in 1923, Inge Morath worked as translator and writer before starting to photograph. She joined the Magnum Group in 1953, firstly as an assistant of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Ernst Haas. A full-member since 1955, her own work quickly achieved fame following numerous publications in magazines such as Life, Paris Match and Vogue. She did portraits of famous contemporary politicians, artists, actors and writers, published books of her travels to the Middle East, Spain, Mexico, Russia and China and on documentaries about a number of movies e.g. "The Misfits" and stage productions of plays by her husband Arthur Miller.
