...in that order. Fr. Schall may call these brief essays "Lighter Christian," but some things are so beautiful and so serious that they require a light touch. These essays often provoke laughter, then thought. Think about it--how often would you expect a lesson in natural law from the description of the proper way to prepare popcorn? Schall also combines beauty and pathos in his pondering on the sadness of abortion after he witnesses the luminosity of the baptism of a baby girl. This is worth more than the small amount of time it takes to read each of the brief works in Idylls and Rambles.
