As a Civil War buff I found this book to be one of the best I've read. The author is a Pulitzer Prize winner and it shows. An easy read and packed with lots of details you don't expect. Most books about the Civil War and it's leaders end when the war ends but this one takes you to the last day of Grant's life. At least half the book is devoted to his life after the war. You'll know him like a neighbor by the time you've finised. Highly recommended.
