A lifelong hunter and wild-game gourmet who has traveled the globe on expeditions with world-class sportsmen, the author purchases an 800-acre farm outside Tallahassee and sets out to raise and hunt his favorite game bird, bobwhite quail. He becomes, at once, both a hunter and preservationist, both predator and protector.
the alibris sypnosis is erroneous.this book is a treatise on why we hunt, particulary as it pertains to wing shooting with the emphasis on bobwhites.it contains a lot of useful information on the habits and lifecycles of these birds. the setting is north florida not france! the author has an 800 acre farm which he is turning into a quail\wildlife paradise.the book relates this journey and the author intersperses the story with anecdotes, philosophy, reflections in a tradition formulated by aldo leopald.it is very well written and is a classic. if my bookshelf could only contain 20 books this one would be among them.
