Not only is this a chronical of one man's career, but a review of the US Manned Space Programs! Mr. Kraft takes us through the pre-Mercury tests, then every Mercury and Gemini flight, onward through Apollo and the moon missions. Our space program was / is a team effort, this is from the 'guy in charge'. For anyone interested in US Space Flight, this is the book to read. To Mr. Kraft and your work, Thank You!
Kraft goes into great detail about how NASA was built literally from the ground up. They had to invent everything from scratch, including the tracking and communications network. HINT: They used standard telephone lines to communicate between Houston and the first manned orbiting spacecrafts before they had any communication satellites in orbit.
Kraft also shares his unique knowledge of mission planning all the way from Shepard's Mercury flight to the Apollo moon landings and beyond. That alone is worth the price of the book.
