live FEARLESS ly
I knew this book would be good and timely with all the fear-filled talk coming at us from every angle, every day in the media, on Main Street, and even in our churches. But I found it to also be timeless, as the author uncovers those lurking fears known to all mankind, such as the fear of insignificance - of not mattering, and the fear of not having enough - of running out of what we need. Of course Max Lucado counters these very real fears with very real scriptures: You were ?skillfully and wonderfully made.? and IF you could count His thoughts of you, ?they would be more in number than the sand.? - from Psalms 139.
Max uses the characters from his affirming storybooks to help us realize again we are loved and that perfect love does cast out sin and fear. Like any children?s book writer and good pastor, this author is so good at those little sayings that help us remember things. Better than ?i before e? is his ?Be a do-er, not a stew-er.? In the chapter on worry, he teaches with the acrostic, PEACEFUL. Pray, first. Easy, now. Act on it. Compile a worry list. Evaluate you worry categories. Focus on today. Unleash a worry army.. Let God be enough.
That brash, loud, rude fear-monster begins to cower and shrink as Max reminds us of the Lord?s Words to ?take courage? and uses personal stories (often from his childhood or from other children) to help us see the scripture from a new perspective, a more big picture/God-view. In the first chapter, there is his 6 year old memory of trying to make it from his bedrrom to the bathroom after watching a scary movie. Like Jesus in the boat in Matthew 8, ?Dad was sound asleep in the storm. How can a person sleep at a time like this??
Read the book and use the discussion guide, included at the end, to let Lucado?s stories, thoughts, and teachings grow a strong, love-powered trust that changes your world.

Book Review: Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without F
?When Christ is Great, Our Fears Are Not?
In ?Fearless, Imagine Your Life Without Fear?, Max Lucado examines the issue of fear, its roots and reasons and offers the only sustainable answer, confidence in Jesus Christ.
It starts with a discussion of the ?Why We Fear? and describes the contrast between faith and fear; what faithful and fearful behavior looks like and the resulting affects they produce in our lives.
Max Lucado begins this focus on fear with a story of his brother?s own death, a result of his life long battle with alcohol describing the ultimate cause as fear.
The remaining chapters are addressed to specific types of fears. Fear of ?Not Mattering?, of ?Running Out?, of ?Not Protecting My Kids?, of ?Overwhelming Challenges?, of ?Worst Case Scenarios?, of ?Violence?, of ?Coming Winter?, of ?Life?s Final Moments?, of ?What?s Next?, of ?God Is Not Real?, of ?Global Calamity?, and of ?God Getting Out of My Box?.
The chapters are short and written in Lucado?s appealing, kind conversational manner. If you have ever read (or heard) Max Lucado, you will understand his gentle, almost soothing writing and speaking style. It is unique to Max Lucado and adds greatly to his discussion of exposing fear and exalting faith in Jesus Christ.
There are personal stories he shares (such as the story of his brother Dee), poems, and practical plans for overcoming the issue of fear. I found his P-E-A-C-E-F-U-L plan particularly useful. It is found in Chapter Four.
As a Ladies Bible Study Teacher, I?ve recently become acutely aware of the ?fear factor? among many of the people in my life. Before I read this book, I had come to the conclusion that fear is an opponent. Fear is an enemy and must be battled. This book also lists and describes the weapons needed to find a battle with fear.
The book includes a discussion guide which reviews each chapter using the three step attack of ?Examining Fear?, ?Exposing Fear? and ?Battling Fear?. These are great tools to use in a small group study.
I highly recommend this book for personal reading or in small group bible study.

?Fearless? by Max Lucado a ?Must Read? This Fall!
Max Lucado has provided us with a strong helping of hope and courage in his newest book, ?Fearless,? available today from Thomas Nelson. Max reminds us that ?There?s a stampede of fear out there. Let?s not get caught in it.? With each paragraph, the doubts and fears seem to vaporize as Lucado takes us along on the Gospel journey with Jesus and his disciples as be builds encouragement into their lives.
?When Jesus is great, our fears are not.? Walking us hand-in-hand with Jesus and his disciples, Max reminds us that ?yes, life stinks. But it won?t forever.? Quoting a friend, he tells us, ?Everything will work out in the end. If it?s not working out, it?s not the end.?
Acknowledging those nagging times of distrust, Max reminds us that doubts ?can make hermits out of us, driving us into hiding. Yet the cave has no answers. Christ distributes courage through community; he dissipates doubts through fellowship.? Pushing us back into relationship the Christ and his body - the local community of followers - Lucado pours fresh, satisfying water on those parched souls struggling for hope in the midst of these turbulent times.
I highly recommend ?Fearless? and encourage you to purchase a copy today!
