Ernst Fuchs. Very good in very good jacket. 230 pp. Quarto [29 x 31 cm]; fuschia colored cloth covered boards with elaborate designs gilt stamped on the boards. Dust jacket illustrated in color. The binding and some of the pages are just a bit loose, but still complete and solidly bound together. The jacket shows just a touch rubbing and edgewear. A beautiful art book. 172 illustrations, including 70 plates in full color. "In the first major book on the art of Ernst Fuchs, the reader is led by the artist himself into the rich world of his artistic fantasy. In a moving, candid autobiographical story, Fuchs talks about the events, emotions and convictions that have shaped his art, from childhood to the present. (From the dust jacket flap. )"
Ernst Fuchs. Near Fine in Near Fine jacket. Book First French ed. Near fine condition, very slight over all wear to book and dustjacket. Dustjacket is from the Abrams edition of 1979. Book text is in French, dustjacket flap text is in English.
If you are at all interested in the work of the prodigious Ernst Fuchs this is definatly the book for you. Almost 300 pages of pure magic here. The first section of the book has Mr. Fuchs discussing his early work & motivations, & shows paintings & drawings he executed when he was just 15 years old. The next & thickest part of the book includes his paintings & highly rendered drawings from 1945-1977. One of my favorite aspects of this book are the brief captions Mr. Fuchs writes under each piece explaining the image. The reproductions are beautiful & the layout is excellent! Even the outside of the book is amazing, it has bright magenta boards with an elaborate design in gold on both sides. Don't miss out on this visual feast. He has been called the "Austrian Dali" & has influenced artists ranging from H.R. Giger, Alex Grey, Mark Ryden, Robert Venosa, etc... Buy it now before they all disappear.
