N/a. Good. No Jacket. 4to-over 9¾"-12" tall. 376 pages. Moderate wear to extremities. Corners are bumped. Previous owners name on first end page. A few notes in ink in the margins. Very pretty marble end pages and fore-edge painting.
Very Good binding. Quarto. Son of President John Tyler, Lyon Gardiner Tyler was the 17th president of the College of William and Mary. Though Tyler is credited as the editor of this set, he authored the first three volumes and acted as supervising editor for the final two. The complete set in 5 volumes, full of portraits many of which are steel engravings, and half bound in black pebbled morocco over cloth. Endpapers are marbled as the edges of the textblock. An uncommon set in any condition, but this set is particularly bright with just a bit of wear at the heads and tails of the spines. (Haynes 18915). Very Good binding.
